Thank you very much to Advanced Paramedic Paul O’Driscoll who gave a fantastic presentation on basic airway management last night for us. The first half of the evening was a presentation by Paul which explained principles and included several real calls he had worked recently. The second half of the evening got hands on, with students practicing basic airway management, finishing with two scenarios taken from recent calls.
How to open an airway
Figuring out why it can be difficult to insert a nasaopharyngeal tube.
Scenario: a fall off of a ladder while hanging Christmas lights at nighttime.
Another scenario: an epileptic man has had a seizure and is now unresponsive.
Talking to the distraught father.
