Fire Burns at Alexandria Warehouse, Smoke Visible for Miles

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Alexandria officials say four firefighters were treated for minor injuries after battling a six-alarm blaze at a warehouse.

The fire broke out midday Monday at the three-story building along South Pickett Street and it took firefighters about four hours to contain the blaze. Dark smoke could be seen for miles.

Chief Fire Marshal Robert Rodriguez says no one was inside the building when the fire broke out. Officials say three Fairfax County firefighters and one Alexandria firefighter were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Rodriguez says a nearby water main break gave firefighters some trouble, but they were able to find another water source quickly. Firefighters remained on the scene overnight to fully extinguish the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.
